Rabbit Island
Rabbit Beach and its islet are the symbol of Lampedusa: white sand, shallow turquoise water and protected nature to look after.
Protected area
The beach is a Nature Reserve: access is regulated to protect the environment. You walk down along a path, and there are precise rules on hours, visitor numbers and behaviour.
The Caretta caretta turtles
It is one of the few Italian nesting sites of the Caretta caretta sea turtle. In summer the nests are monitored: respect the fenced areas and the volunteers' instructions.
Access rules
Generally: no umbrellas planted where signposted, take your litter away, don't disturb wildlife and follow the reserve's hours. Rules can change by season: check the signs on site.
How to get there
You reach it on foot from the car park along a downhill path (comfortable shoes), or by sea with the boat tours that stop in front of the islet.
